Betsson is one of the oldest names in European gambling: a Nasdaq Stockholm-listed group whose roots go back to a Swedish slot-machine business founded in 1963, now running casino, sportsbook and poker brands across Europe and Latin America under local licences. It is the opposite of an offshore crypto casino. You deposit in local currency, you verify your identity before you play, and national rules on bonuses, limits and self-exclusion apply. This review covers Betsson as it stands in October 2026: the Swedish licence switch that closed every existing account on 30 September, what the welcome offers look like in Sweden, Spain and Germany, how payments and withdrawals work, the responsible-gambling tools, and the 2026 deal-making, including the reported talks to buy Sportsbet.io and Bitcasino.
- Licensed, not offshore: Betsson operates under national licences, including Sweden’s Spelinspektionen and Spain’s DGOJ. In Sweden the brand moved to a new licence holder, Spin Nordic Ltd, on 30 September 2026, and existing customers had to open new accounts.
- No crypto at Betsson itself: in Sweden, Spain and Germany you pay in local currency through banks, cards and e-wallets. Its executives called regulated crypto casinos “more of a novelty than the norm” in early 2026.
- Welcome offers are modest and market-specific: Spanish review sites describe a 100% first-deposit match up to €100, Swedish offers were paused during the licence switch, and the German offer could not be confirmed.
- 2026 deals: Betsson completed the €64.5 million purchase of Rhino Entertainment’s Canadian business in August and rebranded betFIRST as Betsson in Belgium in October. February reports that it was negotiating to buy Sportsbet.io and Bitcasino were never confirmed, and no deal had been announced by mid-October.
- Player feedback is weak online: the international Betsson Trustpilot page scores 1.2 out of 5 from about 215 reviews, mostly complaints about withdrawals, verification and account closures.

Betsson changes offers, payment options and even licence holders by market. Everything here was checked against 2026 sources, but the terms on your own country’s Betsson site are the final word.
Our verdict on Betsson
Betsson earns its high score for what it is: a long-established, publicly listed operator that holds national licences, publishes quarterly results and answers to regulators who can fine it. If you live in a market where Betsson is licensed, you get regulated protection, segregated reporting, national self-exclusion and a mature sportsbook with a broad casino attached. Those are the things offshore crypto casinos cannot offer, however generous their rakeback.
The trade-offs are just as clear. Bonuses are small because regulators cap or restrict them. Payments are slower and more paperwork-heavy than crypto, and you will be asked to verify identity and sometimes source of funds. Betsson also has a long regulatory record, including Swedish fines and a 2025 Supreme Court ruling that a group company had to repay a former customer with a gambling problem. And public player reviews of the international site are poor. Our score reflects licensing, product depth and financial stability, not the size of the welcome offer.
Betsson suits players in Sweden, Spain and other licensed markets who want a regulated sportsbook and casino with national safeguards, and who are happy to pay in local currency. If you want to gamble with Bitcoin or stablecoins, Betsson is not the place: see our crypto sports betting guide for how that market works and what risks it carries.
Pros and cons
What we like
- Licensed by national regulators such as Spelinspektionen and the DGOJ, with local complaint routes.
- Publicly listed group that reports results every quarter; 76% of revenue came from locally regulated markets in Q2 2026.
- Deep sportsbook with live betting, plus casino, live casino and poker in most markets.
- Local payment methods, including BankID-based bank payments in Sweden.
- National safeguards built in: Spelpaus in Sweden, the RGIAJ register in Spain, OASIS in Germany.
- Decades of operating history and a strong balance sheet, with net cash at the end of June 2026.
What to watch
- Every Swedish account was closed on 30 September 2026; returning players must register again.
- Welcome offers are small and, in Sweden, were paused during the licence switch.
- No cryptocurrency deposits or withdrawals in the markets we cover.
- German status is unclear in 2026; check the GGL whitelist before you sign up.
- Regulatory history includes Swedish sanctions and a 2025 Supreme Court repayment order.
- Poor public reviews of the international site, centred on withdrawals and account closures.
Licences, ownership and markets in October 2026
Betsson AB is listed on Nasdaq Stockholm and runs its gaming operations from Malta. The group traces its history to 1963, when Bill Lindwall and Rolf Lundström founded a company that supplied slot machines to Swedish restaurants; it bought into the Betsson online business in 2003 and took the Betsson name in 2006. Pontus Lindwall is chief executive of Betsson AB, and Jesper Svensson leads the operating business. The group runs more than 20 brands, including Betsafe and NordicBet, and in October 2026 it described itself as active in 25 key markets across Europe, South America and North America.
The group has shifted firmly towards regulated markets. In its Q2 2026 report, 76% of revenue came from locally regulated markets, up from 66% a year earlier, and Latin America overtook Europe as the largest region, with Peru and Argentina the strongest markets. Higher gaming taxes in regulated markets were the main reason operating profit fell 39% in the quarter, even as revenue reached a record €310.2 million.
Sweden: a new licence holder
On 24 August 2026 Spelinspektionen granted Spin Nordic Ltd, a Malta company, licences for commercial online gaming and betting running to 23 August 2031, with betsson.com/sv listed against it. Swedish licences cannot be transferred between companies, so the brand could only move by having a new company licensed. Swedish reporting in September said existing Betsson accounts under Betsson Nordic Ltd would close on 30 September, open sports bets would be cancelled and stakes refunded, active bonuses would lapse, and balances above 10 kronor would be paid to players’ registered bank accounts within five working days. Anyone who wants to keep playing must open a new account with BankID. Betsson Nordic Ltd still holds its own licences until the end of 2028.
Spain
Betsson operates a Spanish site under licences from the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ). Spanish review sites name Premiere Megaplex, a company Betsson acquired, as the licence holder. Spanish rules require full identity checks, restrict bonus advertising and connect every licensed site to the national self-exclusion register (RGIAJ). Our Spain market page covers the wider rules.
Germany
Betsson was one of the first operators granted a German online sports betting licence in 2021, and Betsson Group’s horse-racing brand RaceBets appears on the German regulator’s whitelist of licensed operators. When we checked the GGL whitelist in October 2026, however, we could not find a Betsson-branded entry for sports betting or casino. German players should search the GGL whitelist for the exact domain before depositing, and not use any Betsson site that is not listed. Our Germany market page explains the licensing system.
Regulatory record
Like most large Nordic operators, Betsson has been fined in Sweden: its subsidiary NGG Nordic received a SEK 19 million sanction in 2019 over repeated bonuses, and Betsson Nordic received a warning and a SEK 6.5 million fee in 2025 over customer due diligence. In July 2025 Sweden’s Supreme Court upheld a ruling that BML Group, a Betsson company, must repay about €500,000 to a former customer whose gambling between 2009 and 2014 showed clear signs of a serious problem. Betsson said the case involved very specific circumstances. None of this puts its licences in doubt, but it is part of the picture.
Betsson and crypto: the Sportsbet.io and Bitcasino talks
Some comparison sites still describe Betsson as a crypto casino. In Sweden, Spain and Germany it is not: there are no Bitcoin or stablecoin payments, no provably fair originals and no anonymous accounts. Regulated markets require identity checks before play and local-currency payments.
Crypto has still been part of Betsson’s 2026 story. On 2 February 2026, citing The Australian, trade outlets reported that Yolo Group, run by Tim Heath, was in talks to sell its crypto brands Sportsbet.io and Bitcasino.io to Betsson at a valuation below €50 million. Betsson declined to comment, citing a policy of not commenting on rumours. In a January interview with iGaming Business, Pontus Lindwall said momentum was building for regulated crypto casinos but called them a long-term play and “more of a novelty than the norm” for now.
By mid-October 2026 neither company had announced a deal. Sportsbet.io itself moved to a new operating company under an Anjouan licence on 30 September 2026, and nothing public links that change to Betsson. Our Sportsbet.io review tracks that brand separately. If a sale is announced, it would be the first time a large listed European operator took over major crypto-first brands, and we will update this review.
Other 2026 deals and changes
- Canada: Betsson agreed in March 2026 to buy Rhino Entertainment’s Canadian business, including Casino Days, for €64.5 million, and completed the deal on 3 August. Its earlier Betsafe Ontario site had gone dark on 31 March.
- Belgium: on 5 October 2026 Betsson replaced its betFIRST brand with the Betsson name, keeping Betsson.sport as a content brand because front-of-shirt gambling sponsorship is banned in Belgian sport.
- Results: the third-quarter 2026 report is due on 22 October.
Welcome offers by market
Betsson does not run one global bonus. Each licensed site has its own offer, shaped by local law, and review sites often disagree on the details because offers change. Treat the figures below as a guide and read the terms on your own country’s site.
| Market | Offer described in 2026 sources | Key conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Spain | 100% first-deposit match up to €100, no code; choose slots, live casino or sports | €10 minimum deposit; slots option reported at 40x within 7 days, sports option at 1.80 minimum odds |
| Sweden | Offers paused during the switch to Spin Nordic; earlier offer was 250 kr free bet plus 50 free spins | Swedish law allows a bonus only on the first occasion per licence holder |
| Germany | Not confirmed; older review pages list several different offers | Check the GGL whitelist before considering any offer |
Sweden is a special case. Because the bonus rule applies per licence holder, Swedish reporting suggested that former Betsson customers could become eligible for a welcome bonus again under Spin Nordic, but Betsson had not published new terms when we checked. Whatever appears, Swedish regulation keeps it modest.
Say you deposit €50 in Spain and take the slots option: you get a €50 bonus. At 40x the bonus, you must stake €2,000 within seven days before the bonus money can be withdrawn. On slots with 96% RTP the expected loss over €2,000 of play is about €80, more than the bonus itself. The sports option, with a single rollover at minimum odds of 1.80, is far easier to clear.
Our casino bonuses guide explains wagering, game weighting and expiry, and our what is RTP guide shows how the house edge eats into play-through. For current offers from other operators, see the bonuses hub.
Sportsbook, casino and poker
Sports betting is Betsson’s core product. The sportsbook covers football, tennis, basketball, ice hockey and the other major sports in depth, with live betting, bet builders, cash-out and live streams in many markets. Sports revenue was €91.3 million in Q2 2026, with a sportsbook margin of 10.5%, helped by the FIFA World Cup. In 2024 Betsson also agreed to buy the pricing and risk-management business Sporting Solutions from FDJ, technology already built into its sportsbook. Our guide to sports betting odds explains margins and how to compare prices.
The casino side brought in €217.6 million in Q2 2026, more than double sports revenue, and includes slots from the major studios, live dealer tables and branded live casino content. Exact game counts vary by country because every regulator approves games separately, and Germany limits stake sizes and features on virtual slots. Betsson also runs poker in several markets.
How it compares with other licensed brands
| Brand | Owner | Strength | Crypto |

| Unibet | FDJ United (Kindred) | Sportsbook, poker, UK and Swedish licences | No |
| LeoVegas | MGM Resorts | Mobile casino | No |
| Betway | Super Group | Sportsbook and esports | No |
| Stake | Medium Rare N.V. | Crypto originals and sportsbook, offshore | Yes |

Payments and withdrawal speed
Payments at Betsson are local. In Sweden that means bank payments authorised with BankID; Swedish review sites list Trustly and Swish alongside cards. In Spain review sites list cards, bank transfer and e-wallets, with a €10 minimum deposit. Credit and debit cards work in most markets, but specific e-wallets vary by country. There are no cryptocurrency options.
| Market | Typical methods | Withdrawal time reported in 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Sweden | BankID bank payments, Trustly, cards | Often within hours once approved; first withdrawals can take longer while checks run |
| Spain | Cards, bank transfer, e-wallets | 1 to 3 working days, per Spanish comparison sites |
| Germany | Not confirmed for 2026 | Check the licensed site’s cashier |
Withdrawal times depend less on the method than on verification. Licensed operators must confirm identity, and they can ask for proof of address or source of funds, especially after large deposits. Most complaints we found about slow Betsson payouts involve these checks. Upload documents early, withdraw to the same method you deposited with, and avoid withdrawing with an active bonus, which can void it. Our deposits and withdrawals guide covers the general process.
If you were a Swedish Betsson customer before 30 September 2026, check that any balance above 10 kronor has reached your registered bank account. The reported deadline was five working days after the switch. Contact Betsson support first, then Spelinspektionen if the money has not arrived.
Responsible gambling tools
This is where a licensed operator differs most from an offshore casino. Betsson’s tools are built around national requirements, so they vary by market.
- Sweden: you must set deposit limits when you register; Spelpaus lets you exclude yourself from every licensed Swedish site at once; the account shows a session clock and time-outs; bonuses are limited to the first occasion.
- Spain: identity verification before play, deposit limits set at registration, and self-exclusion through the national RGIAJ register, which applies to every licensed operator.
- Germany: licensed sites must apply a cross-operator deposit limit, which is €1,000 a month by default, and check the OASIS self-exclusion system before each session.
- Everywhere: deposit, loss and session limits, time-outs and self-exclusion in account settings.
Swedish court cases have shown that operators can be held responsible when their own data shows a customer is in trouble, but the tools work best when you use them before you need them. Set a monthly budget you can afford to lose and treat gambling as paid entertainment, not income. Our responsible gambling guide and responsible gambling hub have more.
Sweden: Stödlinjen, 020-81 91 00 (free and anonymous). Germany: BIÖG gambling helpline, 0800 1 37 27 00 (free). Spain: FEJAR, 900 200 225. You can also exclude yourself nationally through Spelpaus in Sweden, the RGIAJ in Spain and OASIS in Germany.
Player feedback and reputation in 2026
Public reviews of Betsson are poor. The international betsson.com page on Trustpilot scored 1.2 out of 5 from about 215 reviews in October 2026, with 78% one-star ratings and few recent reviews. Recurring themes in 2026 reviews were delayed or withheld withdrawals, repeated verification requests, accounts blocked without a clear reason and disputes over bonuses. Trustpilot also noted that Betsson does not reply to negative reviews there.
Two caveats apply. The sample is small for a group with 1.8 million active customers, and unhappy customers are more likely to post. Swedish and Spanish customers also have routes that offshore players lack: licensed operators must handle complaints, and regulators can investigate. Still, the pattern matches what we see across regulated operators: most friction comes at the point of withdrawal, when checks are triggered.
On the financial side Betsson is solid: it reported net cash of €128.4 million at the end of June 2026, positive operating cash flow and record revenue, so there is no sign of the solvency risk that comes with small offshore sites.
How to open an account and make your first withdrawal
- Check that Betsson is licensed where you live: Spelinspektionen’s register in Sweden, the DGOJ list in Spain, the GGL whitelist in Germany. See our Sweden, Spain and Germany pages.
- Register on your country’s Betsson site. In Sweden you sign in with BankID; elsewhere you upload ID when asked.
- Set deposit and loss limits during sign-up. You can lower them at once; raising them takes effect only after a waiting period.
- Read the welcome offer terms before you deposit, including wagering, minimum odds and expiry, or skip the bonus.
- Deposit with a method you can also withdraw to, in local currency.
- Complete verification early so your first withdrawal is not held up.
- Request a small withdrawal first to see how long it takes, then keep records of deposits and withdrawals.
