DraftKings is one of the two giants of legal US betting. It started in daily fantasy sports, moved into sportsbooks when the Supreme Court struck down the federal ban in 2018, and now runs a sportsbook, an online casino, fantasy contests and, since December 2025, a prediction market. It is licensed state by state, which gives you real regulatory protection, but it also means the product, the welcome offer and even the cost of a bet change depending on where you stand. This review covers DraftKings as it is in October 2026: where it is live, what the welcome offers are worth, how the app, odds and same-game parlays compare, how deposits and withdrawals work, and the 2026 news that matters to bettors, from DraftKings Predictions and its lawsuits to state tax rises.
- Licensed in 29 sports betting jurisdictions: DraftKings’ June 2026 quarterly filing lists 28 states and territories plus Washington, D.C., including Missouri, Arkansas and Maine. Its online casino runs in five states: Connecticut, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. It also operates in Ontario.
- Welcome offer: early October 2026 reviews describe “spend $5, get $150 in bonus bets” paid in instalments, with some versions quoting $200. No code is needed, bonus bets expire after seven days and the stake is not returned. Casino players were offered up to 1,000 spins over 20 days.
- No credit cards: DraftKings stopped taking credit card deposits across the US in August 2025. Debit cards, PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, online banking and Play+ remain.
- 2026 headwinds: DraftKings Predictions faces lawsuits claiming it is an unlicensed sportsbook, North Carolina raised its sports betting tax to 23%, and Illinois bettors still pay a 50-cent fee on every bet.

State law decides what DraftKings can offer you, so the app in New Jersey is not the app in Missouri. Everything here was checked against 2026 sources, but the promotions tab and terms in your own state are the final word.
Our verdict on DraftKings
DraftKings is one of the most complete betting apps in the US. The market range is deep, the same-game parlay builder is fast, live betting covers most major games, and the shared wallet lets you move between sportsbook and casino without a second deposit. It is licensed and audited in every state it serves, it pays withdrawals through mainstream methods, and if something goes wrong you can complain to a state regulator that has fined DraftKings before and will do so again. That is protection an offshore site cannot offer.
The weak points are price and promotion. DraftKings is rarely the sharpest book on standard lines, its parlay and boost products carry high built-in margins, and the welcome offer has shrunk compared with a few years ago. Bettors who win consistently report limits on their stakes, which is common across US books. 2026 has also brought noise around the company: an aggressive move into prediction markets that drew lawsuits and cost it a path into Nevada, a guidance cut that hit its share price, and state tax rises that partly reach bettors through fees and thinner promotions.
DraftKings suits recreational bettors in legal states who want a polished app, a wide choice of markets and casino games in one wallet. Serious price shoppers should hold accounts at two or three books, such as FanDuel, bet365 and Caesars, and bet wherever the price is best. Compare all of them on our sportsbooks page.
Pros and cons
What we like
- Licensed and regulated in every state it serves, with clear routes to complain.
- One of the deepest market lists in the US, including player props and live markets.
- Fast same-game parlay builder with suggested parlays and parlay boosts.
- Shared wallet across sportsbook, casino, fantasy and Pick6.
- Withdrawals through PayPal, Venmo and debit cards usually land quickly.
- Deposit limits, cool-offs and self-exclusion built into the account.
What to watch
- Prices on standard lines are often behind the sharpest books.
- Bonus bets do not return the stake and expire after seven days.
- A 50-cent fee is added to every bet in Illinois.
- Winning bettors report stake limits, and support relies heavily on a chatbot first.
- Prediction market expansion has brought lawsuits and regulatory friction.
- Very low Trustpilot score, driven by disputes over settlement, limits and promotions.
Where DraftKings is legal in October 2026
DraftKings’ quarterly filing for the period to 30 June 2026 says 33 US jurisdictions have legal online sports betting and DraftKings operates in 29 of them. Its October 2026 promotional terms list the same footprint.
| Product | Where it is live | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Online sportsbook | Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Washington D.C., West Virginia, Wyoming | Missouri’s market opened on 1 December 2025 |
| Online casino | Connecticut, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia | Delaware, Maine and Rhode Island also have iGaming laws but DraftKings does not offer casino there |
| Retail sportsbooks | Several states including Mississippi, Washington and Wisconsin | In-person betting at partner casinos only |
| Canada | Ontario | Sportsbook and casino under Ontario’s regulated market |
The minimum age is 21 in most states and 18 in a few, including Washington D.C., New Hampshire, Puerto Rico and Wyoming. Geolocation checks confirm you are inside a legal state every time you bet, so a DraftKings account opened in New Jersey works when you visit Pennsylvania, but not in California or Texas. Do not use a VPN or location spoofing: it breaks the terms and DraftKings can void bets and close the account. Our US market page tracks which states are legal for sports betting and casino.
Nevada and the prediction market split
DraftKings has never had a consumer sportsbook in Nevada. In November 2025 it withdrew its pending Nevada applications after the Nevada Gaming Control Board said that taking part in prediction markets was incompatible with holding a Nevada licence. FanDuel surrendered its Nevada licence at the same time.
Welcome offers in October 2026
DraftKings changes its new-customer offer every few weeks, often around big sporting events. Reviews published in early October 2026 described the sportsbook offer as spend $5, get $150 in bonus bets, paid in $50 instalments over 14 days, with the terms listing an end date of 11 October. A review updated on 12 October described $200 in bonus bets plus three months of NBA League Pass (which renews at $16.99 a month unless cancelled). Neither requires a promo code. The common terms are a first bet of at least $5, bonus bets that expire seven days after they are issued, and stakes that are not returned when a bonus bet wins.
| Offer | What you do | What you get | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sportsbook (early October) | Bet at least $5 once | $150 in bonus bets in instalments | All 29 sportsbook jurisdictions |
| Sportsbook (from mid-October) | Bet at least $5 once | $200 in bonus bets plus NBA League Pass trial | Most sportsbook states |
| Casino | Opt in and wager at least $5 | Up to 1,000 spins, 50 a day for 20 days | Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia |
| Pick6 | Deposit $5 | $50 in bonus picks | States where Pick6 runs |
Earlier in 2026 the casino offer was a $5 bet for 500 spins plus up to $1,000 of first-day net losses returned as casino credit. Lossback offers return credit with a playthrough requirement, not cash, so read the multiplier before you rely on it.
Bonus bets keep only the winnings. Say you split $150 into six $25 bonus bets at odds of +200. A win pays $50 profit; the $25 stake is not returned. If the book’s margin leaves your true chance of winning at about 31%, each bet is worth about $15.50 on average (31% × $50), so the whole package is worth roughly $93, not $150. Using bonus bets at very short odds lowers the value further, because the stake you never get back is a larger share of the return.
Our bonuses page compares current US offers, and our guide to casino bonuses explains wagering, lossback and expiry in more detail.
App, odds and margins
The DraftKings app is built around speed. Popular markets sit on the home screen, search works well, and bet slips can hold straight bets, parlays, teasers and round robins. Daily odds boosts sit in an Odds Boost Marketplace, profit boost tokens add a percentage to winnings on selected bets, and early cash-out is available on many open bets. DraftKings also sells Sportsbook+, a paid monthly subscription of about $20 that adds parlay boosts and other perks. Whether that is worth paying depends on how often you bet parlays, and for most recreational bettors it will not be.
Prices are where DraftKings is ordinary rather than exceptional. Main lines on the NFL and NBA are usually priced around -110 on each side, which is the industry standard, but player props and alternative lines tend to carry wider margins, and DraftKings is not the book that sharp bettors use to set their numbers. The company told investors in 2025 that it was raising its “structural hold”, the share of each dollar wagered that it expects to keep, largely through parlay-heavy products. That is good for shareholders and expensive for customers.
At -110 on both sides of a spread, each side implies 110 ÷ 210 = 52.38%. Together they add up to 104.76%, so the book keeps about 4.5% of the money in a balanced market (1 − 1 ÷ 1.0476). On a three-leg parlay of such legs, you keep only about 0.955 × 0.955 × 0.955 = 87% of fair value, so the margin rises to about 13% before any extra correlation pricing.
Our sports betting odds guide explains how to convert American odds, calculate implied probability and spot when a price is poor. Comparing the same bet at two or three licensed books is the simplest way to cut what you pay.
Same-game parlays and live betting
Same-game parlays (SGPs) are DraftKings’ signature product. You can combine spreads, totals and player props from one game; SGPx lets you link legs from several games, each with its own same-game parlay, and Quick SGP suggests ready-made combinations. Parlay insurance and parlay boosts appear regularly as promotions, typically returning a bonus bet if one leg fails.
SGPs are entertaining, but they are the highest-margin bets on the app. The legs within one game are correlated, so DraftKings adjusts the price downwards, and you cannot see how much. Treat a long SGP as a lottery ticket, not as a value bet.
Live betting
In-play markets cover the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, college sports, soccer and tennis, with quick-fire “flash” markets on events such as the result of the next drive. Prices move fast and markets suspend often during key moments, so bets placed late can be rejected. Streaming is limited compared with international books such as bet365, so most US bettors watch on television and bet on the app.
DraftKings Casino
DraftKings Casino runs in Connecticut, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, and in Ontario. 2026 reviews describe a library of more than 800 games: slots from the major US studios, DraftKings-branded exclusives, jackpot slots, blackjack, roulette, baccarat and live-dealer tables. It uses the same wallet and login as the sportsbook. iGaming is a growing share of the business, at about $462 million of revenue in the second quarter of 2026.
Slot return-to-player rates vary by game and by state, and some titles run at several RTP settings. Check the information screen in each game before playing, and read our RTP guide to see why a few percentage points matter. If you prefer a casino-first app, our casinos page compares DraftKings with BetMGM, Caesars and Borgata.
Payments and withdrawal speed
DraftKings stopped accepting credit card deposits from US customers in August 2025, shortly after the Massachusetts Gaming Commission fined it $450,000 for taking credit-card-funded bets in a state where they are banned. The block also covers credit cards linked through payment apps. Several states, including Illinois, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee and Vermont, ban credit card funding by law anyway.
| Method | Deposit | Withdrawal | Typical withdrawal time |
|---|---|---|---|
| PayPal | Yes | Yes | Often within 24 hours once approved |
| Venmo | Yes | Yes | Often within 24 hours once approved |
| Debit card (Visa, Mastercard) | Yes | Yes, where supported | Same day to a few days |
| Online banking / ACH | Yes | Yes | 1 to 3 business days |
| Apple Pay | Yes | Yes, in some states | 1 to 3 days |
| Play+ prepaid card | Yes | Yes | Usually fast once approved |
| Cash at a partner casino cage | Yes | Yes | Same day in person |
| Wire transfer | Yes | Yes | Up to about a week |
Most delays come from a first withdrawal that triggers identity checks, a withdrawal to a method you did not deposit with, or a large amount that needs review. Verify your account early, withdraw to the method you deposited with, and keep the name on your payment methods identical to your account. Our deposits and withdrawals guide explains how payment checks work.
The Illinois per-bet fee
Illinois charges sportsbooks 25 cents on each of their first 20 million online bets a year and 50 cents on every bet after that. DraftKings responded in September 2025 by adding a 50-cent transaction fee to every bet placed in Illinois, and was still charging it in 2026 while FanDuel paused its own fee for part of the year. On a $10 bet that is an extra 5%; on a $2 bet it is 25%. Small-stakes bettors in Illinois should weigh that before choosing a book.
DraftKings Predictions and other 2026 news
DraftKings launched DraftKings Predictions in December 2025, using Railbird, a CFTC-designated exchange it agreed to buy in October 2025 in a deal valued at $84.8 million, with contingent payments that could reach $200 million. Prediction markets are regulated federally as event contracts rather than licensed as gambling by states. DraftKings offers sports contracts only in states without legal online sports betting, such as California, Texas and Georgia, and financial and other contracts more widely. By the first quarter of 2026 Predictions was available inside the main DraftKings app, and the company told investors it expected to spend heavily on the product in 2026.
- Lawsuits: between 28 July and 3 August 2026, DraftKings was hit with two proposed class actions in Massachusetts federal court and a South Carolina suit, all alleging that Predictions is an unlicensed sportsbook. DraftKings says the product operates under the federal Commodity Exchange Act and that it will defend the cases.
- Results: second-quarter 2026 revenue fell 5% to about $1.44 billion, which DraftKings put down to customer-friendly results and heavier promotional spending on the sportsbook and Predictions. In February its 2026 guidance of $6.5 billion to $6.9 billion in revenue disappointed analysts and the shares fell sharply.
- Taxes: North Carolina raised its online sports betting tax from 18% to 23% in July 2026. New Jersey moved to 19.75% in 2025, and Illinois added its per-wager tax. Higher taxes tend to show up for bettors as smaller promotions and fees rather than worse odds on headline lines.
- Nevada: DraftKings withdrew its Nevada applications in November 2025 over the prediction market dispute.
Fines and other lawsuits
State regulators fine DraftKings regularly, usually for taking bets on markets their state does not allow. Recent penalties include $450,000 in Massachusetts (July 2025, credit card deposits), $32,500 in New Jersey (December 2025, including bets on volleyball matches that had already finished), $425,000 in Ohio (2024) and $19,000 in Connecticut (2024). We did not find a new fine against DraftKings announced in 2026 when we checked in October. Separately, a class action filed in Michigan federal court on 30 December 2025 alleges that DraftKings let users raise deposit and wager limits immediately, without the 24-hour cooling-off period several states require, and a 2025 Pennsylvania suit challenges its past “no sweat” and deposit-match promotions. These are allegations, not findings.
Responsible gambling tools
As a licensed operator, DraftKings must give you tools to control your play, and they sit in the account settings and its Safer Play centre.
- Daily, weekly or monthly deposit limits, plus wager and time limits in many states.
- Cool-off periods from 24 hours to several weeks.
- Self-exclusion through DraftKings or your state’s exclusion list, for periods up to five years or longer depending on the state.
- Self-assessment tools, activity statements and the option to opt out of marketing.
Lowering a limit takes effect at once. Under state rules, raising a limit should take at least 24 hours in many states, which is the point of the Michigan lawsuit. Set limits when you open the account, not after a bad night. Free, confidential help is available 24 hours a day on 1-800-MY-RESET (call or text), the national helpline run by the National Council on Problem Gambling. Our responsible gambling hub and responsible gambling guide list more tools and services.
Player feedback in 2026
DraftKings scores 1.2 out of 5 on Trustpilot from about 930 reviews, and the profile is unclaimed, so the company does not invite reviews or reply there. Recent complaints centre on disputed settlements, cash-out being removed during games, stake limits for winning bettors, promotions that customers say were not honoured, and slow support that starts with a chatbot. App-store ratings are far higher, because they mostly reflect how the app works rather than disputes. Neither source is verified, so treat them as signs of common friction rather than proof of wrongdoing.
If a dispute is not resolved by support, you can escalate it to the gaming regulator in the state where you placed the bet. That route is one of the main reasons to choose a licensed book over an offshore one.
How DraftKings compares with other US sportsbooks
| Sportsbook | Main strength | Compared with DraftKings |
|---|---|---|
| FanDuel | Largest US market share and a very smooth app | Similar product; often slightly better on props and payout speed |
| BetMGM | Casino depth and MGM Rewards | Stronger casino, weaker same-game parlay tools |
| Caesars | Caesars Rewards tied to hotels and resorts | Better loyalty value for travellers |
| Fanatics | FanCash rewards on every bet | Smaller market list, more generous ongoing rewards |
| bet365 | Live betting and streaming | Often sharper prices, fewer states |
| BetRivers | Simple loyalty scheme | Lighter app, fewer markets |
| Hard Rock Bet | Unity by Hard Rock rewards | Fewer states and a smaller market list |
| theScore Bet | Sports media integration | Smaller, strong in Ontario |
| Bally Bet | Simple interface for casual bettors | Far smaller market range |
For most bettors the answer is not one book but two or three, so that you can take the best price on each bet. Our FanDuel review covers DraftKings’ closest rival in the same depth.
