Unibet is one of Europe’s best-known betting brands: founded in Sweden in 1997, built into the Kindred Group, and since October 2024 owned by the French lottery operator FDJ, which now trades as FDJ United. It offers a sportsbook, casino, live casino, poker and, in the UK, bingo, all under national licences. It is not a crypto brand and no longer operates in North America. This review covers Unibet in October 2026: where it is licensed, what the UK and Swedish welcome offers are worth under the new UK 10x wagering cap, how payments and withdrawals work, its responsible-gambling tools and regulatory record, and how FDJ United’s 2026 turnaround plans affect players.

Key takeaways
  • Owner and licences: Unibet belongs to Kindred, owned by FDJ United since October 2024. In Great Britain it is licensed by the UK Gambling Commission through Platinum Gaming Limited (account 45322); in Sweden it has run under its own Spelinspektionen licence since October 2025.
  • North America is over: Kindred announced its exit from all North American markets in November 2023, and Unibet was no longer in the iGaming Ontario directory in September 2026.
  • UK offers follow the new rules: since 19 January 2026 UK bonuses cannot carry more than 10x wagering or mix products. The sports offer was Bet £20, Get £40 in free bets from August 2026, and the casino offer was free spins with 10x wagering on winnings.
  • 2026 pressure: the UK’s remote gaming duty rose from 21% to 40% in April, Kindred’s UK revenue fell sharply, and FDJ United set up a UK turnaround task force while ruling out an exit.
  • No crypto: Unibet pays in local currency through cards, bank transfers and e-wallets. For crypto betting, see our crypto sports betting guide.

Our verdict on Unibet

Unibet is a dependable regulated all-rounder. The sportsbook is deep, the poker room is one of the few run in-house by a major operator, and the casino and live casino cover the big studios. Its UK and Swedish licences mean national safeguards, a route to independent dispute resolution in the UK, and owners who publish results and answer to regulators. Since the FDJ takeover it is also part of one of Europe’s largest gambling groups, which reduces the risk of a sudden collapse.

The weak points are familiar for big licensed brands. Bonuses are small, especially after the UK’s January 2026 rules. Verification can slow withdrawals, and that is the main complaint on Trustpilot. Kindred’s UK business has struggled in 2026 under higher taxes, and its regulator has fined it twice since 2023 for anti-money-laundering and safer-gambling failures. None of this makes Unibet unsafe, but it explains why we score it below Betsson and why its UK offer is not the biggest on the market.

Who it is for

Unibet suits UK and Swedish players who want a licensed sportsbook, poker and casino in one account, with national protections. It does not take crypto and does not serve North America. If you want to compare it with other regulated brands, start with our sportsbooks and casinos rankings.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Licensed by the UK Gambling Commission and Spelinspektionen, with national self-exclusion built in.
  • Owned by FDJ United, a large listed group with a state shareholder in France.
  • Strong sportsbook with live betting, bet builders and cash-out.
  • In-house poker, which few big sportsbooks still run.
  • UK offers now capped at 10x wagering, which makes them easier to understand.
  • Clear limits, time-outs and reality checks in account settings.

What to watch

  • Small welcome offers, with qualifying deposits limited to debit cards and bank transfers in the UK.
  • Verification holds are the most common complaint about withdrawals.
  • UK Gambling Commission fines in 2023 and 2025 against the licence holder.
  • No crypto payments and no service in North America.
  • FDJ United is reviewing the markets Kindred operates in; country lists could change.
  • Customer service replies to only a small share of negative public reviews.

Ownership, licences and markets in October 2026

Unibet was founded in 1997 by Anders Ström and listed in Stockholm in 2004. The group later renamed itself Kindred and added brands such as 32Red and Maria Casino. In October 2024 FDJ, the French lottery operator, completed its takeover of Kindred after its offer passed 90% of the shares, and in 2025 the enlarged company renamed itself FDJ United. Unibet is now the group’s main international online brand.

Great Britain

The UK Gambling Commission’s public register lists Platinum Gaming Limited, account 45322, with five active remote licences since July 2016 covering casino, bingo, real and virtual event betting and pool betting. Platinum Gaming is the Kindred company behind unibet.co.uk and 32Red. UK rules require identity checks before you gamble, ban credit cards for gambling, keep online slot stakes at £5 a spin (£2 for players aged 18 to 24), and give you access to an independent dispute resolution service if a complaint is not settled. See our UK market page.

Sweden

Unibet has been licensed in Sweden since the market opened in 2019, at first sharing a licence with other Kindred brands. On 23 October 2025 it moved to its own Unibet licence, and every player, including existing customers, had to open a new account through BankID. Swedish rules allow a bonus only on the first occasion per licence holder, so the move also made the welcome offer available to returning players. See our Sweden market page.

Elsewhere in Europe

Unibet also runs licensed sites in several other European countries. In France, FDJ United closed ParionsSport en ligne on 24 March 2026 and moved its online sports betting and poker customers to Unibet. In Romania, a Kindred company received a new ten-year licence from 1 September 2026 for Unibet and two sister brands. Kindred left Norway at the end of 2023.

The exit from North America

In November 2023, after a strategic review, Kindred announced it would leave all North American markets by the end of the second quarter of 2024, cutting more than 300 roles. That ended Unibet’s US sportsbook and casino operations in states such as New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and its Ontario site, which had launched with the regulated market in April 2022. In September 2026 Unibet did not appear in the iGaming Ontario operator directory. Any site using the Unibet name that targets North American players today is not part of that business. For licensed options in Canada and the US, see our Canada and US pages.

FDJ United in 2026: taxes, the UK and a market review

Unibet’s 2026 has been shaped by its owner’s results. The UK raised remote gaming duty, the tax on online casino profits, from 21% to 40% on 1 April 2026, and higher taxes also hit the Netherlands, France and Romania. In the first quarter, Kindred’s UK gross gaming revenue fell 24.1%.

In April, FDJ United’s new head of online betting and gaming, Pascal Chaffard, ruled out leaving the UK, calling the business profitable but with a low single-digit market share, and set up task forces for the UK and the Netherlands. First-half results published on 29 July showed online betting and gaming revenue down 7.4% to €431 million on flat gaming revenue of €702 million; outside the UK and the Netherlands, gaming revenue rose 6.6%, led by France and Scandinavia. FDJ United said it was reviewing where the Kindred business operates, while chief executive Stéphane Pallez said there was no potential decision on any exit.

What this means for you

For players, the practical effects are smaller UK offers and the chance that Unibet trims less profitable markets. Neither puts customer balances at risk: UK licensees must explain how customer funds are protected, and FDJ United is a large group. If your country is affected by any future change, withdraw your balance promptly when notified.

Welcome offers and the UK 10x wagering cap

From 19 January 2026, the UK Gambling Commission capped wagering requirements on bonuses at ten times the bonus amount and banned promotions that require you to use more than one product, such as betting and slots together. Unibet changed its UK offers accordingly. According to OLBG, it dropped the casino part of its sports welcome deal in January 2026 and moved to Bet £10, Get £30, then changed to Bet £20, Get £40 in August.

Worked example: the 10x cap on free-spin winnings

Say 300 spins at 10p each return £24 in winnings. Under the 10x cap you must stake £240 before that £24 can be withdrawn. On slots with 96% RTP, the expected cost of £240 of play is about £9.60, so you would expect to keep roughly £14 of the winnings on average, with wide swings either way. Before January 2026, a 35x requirement on the same £24 would have meant £840 of play and an expected cost of about £34, more than the winnings.

Free bets usually return only the winnings, not the stake: a £10 free bet at odds of 3.0 pays £20, not £30. Our casino bonuses guide explains these rules, and the bonuses hub compares current offers.

Sportsbook, casino, poker and bingo

Unibet built its name on sports betting. The sportsbook covers football in depth, along with horse racing, tennis, golf, darts, basketball and US sports, with live betting, bet builders, cash-out and streaming on selected events. Odds are competitive on major football markets, and Unibet runs regular price boosts. Our sports betting odds guide shows how to compare margins between books such as Unibet and bet365.

The casino carries slots from the major studios, jackpots and a large live casino, with UK stake limits applied automatically. Poker is Unibet’s own product rather than part of a shared network, with cash games and tournaments in markets where it is licensed. UK customers also get bingo. Game numbers differ by country because each regulator approves content separately.

Payments and withdrawal speed

Unibet uses local payment methods. In the UK that means debit cards, bank transfers, Apple Pay and e-wallets such as PayPal, Skrill and Neteller, although only debit cards and instant bank transfers qualify for the welcome offers. Credit cards are banned for gambling in Great Britain. In Sweden, deposits and withdrawals run through BankID-authorised bank payments. Unibet does not accept cryptocurrency anywhere we checked.

MethodTypical withdrawal time once approvedNotes
E-wallets (PayPal, Skrill, Neteller)Usually the same dayDo not qualify for UK welcome offers
Debit cardUsually 1 to 3 working daysDepends on your bank
Bank transfer / BankID paymentsSame day to 3 working daysOften fastest in Sweden

Unibet processes withdrawals internally before your bank or wallet receives them, and the biggest delays come from verification. UK licensees must verify identity before you gamble and may ask for proof of address or source of funds when deposits rise. Several 2026 Trustpilot reviews describe accounts frozen for weeks during these checks. Upload documents early, withdraw to the method you deposited with, and keep records. Our deposits and withdrawals guide covers the process.

Responsible gambling tools and helplines

Unibet’s tools follow UK and Swedish rules: deposit limits, loss limits, session reminders and reality checks, time-outs and self-exclusion, all from account settings. In the UK it is part of GAMSTOP, the free national self-exclusion scheme, and lower slot stake limits apply to players aged 18 to 24. In Sweden you must set deposit limits when you register, and Spelpaus excludes you from every licensed site at once.

Unibet’s regulatory record shows why these tools matter. In March 2023 the UK Gambling Commission fined Platinum Gaming £2.9 million, and in October 2025 it fined the company £10 million, with a warning and an independent audit, after finding that its systems had failed to flag customers showing signs of harm between January 2023 and May 2024. In 2026, a Swedish court upheld an anti-money-laundering fine against a Kindred company. Set your own limits rather than relying on the operator to spot problems. Our responsible gambling guide explains how.

Where to get help

UK: National Gambling Helpline run by GamCare, 0808 8020 133, free and open 24 hours, plus GAMSTOP for self-exclusion. Sweden: Stödlinjen, 020-81 91 00, free and anonymous, plus Spelpaus. Germany: BIÖG gambling helpline, 0800 1 37 27 00. More support is listed on our responsible gambling page.

Player feedback and reputation in 2026

Unibet’s UK Trustpilot page scored 3.3 out of 5 from about 2,750 reviews in October 2026, with about 540 posted in the previous 12 months. The split is sharp: 28% five-star and 56% one-star. Positive reviews mention easy navigation, fair odds and quick withdrawals. Negative ones focus on accounts frozen during verification, withdrawals held, bonuses withheld and difficulty reaching a person in support. Unibet replied to about 14% of negative reviews, usually pointing to its regulatory duties.

That pattern is typical of a large UK-licensed bookmaker. Affordability and anti-money-laundering checks now hit more customers, and the people they hit are the ones who post reviews. The checks are a legal requirement, not a sign that Unibet will not pay. If a complaint is not resolved, UK players can take it to the independent dispute resolution provider named in Unibet’s terms, and Swedish players can report problems to Spelinspektionen.

How to open an account and make your first withdrawal

  1. Check that you are in a market Unibet serves and that the site carries your national licence: UK Gambling Commission in Great Britain, Spelinspektionen in Sweden.
  2. Register with your real details. In Sweden you sign in with BankID; in the UK you pass identity checks before you can gamble.
  3. Set deposit and loss limits straight away, and add a reality check.
  4. Decide whether you want the welcome offer, and read the qualifying terms, including payment method and minimum odds.
  5. Deposit with a debit card or bank transfer if you want the offer; otherwise any listed method you can withdraw to.
  6. Upload any requested documents early, then make a small test withdrawal to see how long it takes.
